Training for Recipient Families' Children
While children living in the city can spend their winter holidays visiting libraries and museums, children living in remote rural areas can only stay at home during wintry weather. Heifer helped set up a library with many children's books in the Shanghuofang community during this past winter, the winter holiday has become different for children there since then. Changes of a Sichuanese Woman in Muendi community of Gudu Village in Sichuan Project
Sichuanese woman Ji Buguoguo did not receive much education and could barely recognize a few characters. She was very shy and afraid of speaking. However, she actively participated in Heifer's training and assisted the project partner in trainings. Liujiadawan Women's Embroidery Group in Anhui Project
It is a tradition for women in Changlin Village, Dabie Mountain Area in Anhui, to embroider children's clothes, scarves and shoe insoles. With the development of society and the economy, fewer and fewer local women possess the skills of embroidery now. The Power of Self-Help Group in Hebei Project
Jiang Yanli was the member of the 4th SHG in Shanghuofang Community in Danangou, Hebei. With no skill, he never dreamt of having a chance to improve his living conditions for his parents and son and the whole family. Jiang had a dream to rebuild his house. Caring & Sharing within Project Communities in Tibet
Since the establishment of Self-Help Groups in Jiumai & Jilin Village in Zhanang County in Tibet, the two villages have implemented a variety of group activities. The most heart-warming outcome of this project is the mutual care fostered among our project families. During the study and practice on scientific development in Zhanang County, three Self-help groups in Jiumai Village took turns to voluntarily help construct the house for a needy household-Bazhu. Buffalo Brings New Life to Project Families in Yunnan
Heifer has started a project in Donggang Village which has threathened by the problems of poverty, drug addiction and AIDS. Zhao Apu is an ordinary woman in Donggang Village in Yunnan. Before joining the Heifer project, her husband was in prison for taking drugs. She had to take care two young sons at home and the family relied on limited agricultural products for a living. Rebuilding Sichuan
In a world where disasters hurt the most poor and vulnerable, Heifer's work in Yangping, the 5.12 Earthquake affected community, is an example of our work to create sustainable relief. It was into the desperation that Heifer began its work in Sichuan. Farmer in Cambodia learns benefits of compost fertilizer
"What I have today came from what I learned from the trainings by Heifer," Thann said in Cambodia. "It helped changed my belief and practice from using chemicals to compost fertilizer."
