Zhanang Community Holistic Development Project

Zhanang County is located in the middle reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River, 140 km from the capital city of Lhasa. The extreme cold and erratic weather results in a harsh ecological condition in the region. People there are lack of marketing sense and transportation is very inconvenient in the region. In addition, frequent natural disasters plague the area and are major causes of poverty. As a result, the region is one of the most undeveloped areas in China.
This project provides 120 families with 240 local-breed quality dairy cows along with training on animal management, holistic community development, environmental protection and gender equity. It is hoped that increased capacity of project families can ensure that the families can have sustain long-term development on their own. Another 120 families will benefit from "passing on the gift" in this project.
