Location: Wuqiao, Chongqing
No. of recipient households : 150
No. of animals given: 300
No. of pass-on families: 300

Located in the Wuqiao County of Wanzhou District of Chongqing Municipality, Wuxi Village has 3170 villagers, of which 50% population is migrants from the Three Gorges Project. As migrants, they have to share limited croplands with existing residents, making life more difficult. Villagers there have a tradition to raise pigs. Not because the investment if low and the return is quick, but also the skill needed is rather simple that farmers can easily handle. However, most farmers are lacking start up funds to buy pigs.

In this project, Heifer will help 150 families (preference will be given to migrants) by giving them 2 sows (female pigs) or interest-free loans to buy sows. Besides, Heifer will provide them with agricultural supplies to help build or improve pig pens. Training on animal management and veterinary supplies will also be provided to farmers.
