Toksun Sustainable Livestock and Agriculture Development Project

Xinjiang Uigur Autonomous Region covers the largest territory in China. Located in the Turpan Basin, to the east of Xinjiang, Turpan Prefecture has many famous scenic spots of China.  It is one of the important stations of the ancient Silk Road. 

 

 

 

Working with impoverished households in four communities in the Toksun area of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, this project will provide dairy or beef cattle to 160 families. It will also provide drip irrigation equipment and supplies, veterinary supplies, grass seeds and trees. The families will increase their income and self-reliance through training in sustainable livestock, agriculture technology for semi-arid areas and integrated community development approaches. During this process, farm families will participate in self-help initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable development. Another 160 families will benefit from pass-ons.
