2 Communities in the Township of Tikerbra, Turpan Prefecture of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region will be helped in this project. The inhabitants in this region are mostly Uygurs. Township of Tikerbra is one of the hottest cities in China with 146 days above 30 ∘C. There is extreme weather between summer and winter and large temperature difference between day and night. Moreover, there frequent sand and dust storm. Due to the unfavourable climate and insufficient natural resources, 30% of farmers in the Prefecture make less than 800 yuan per year, even not enough to buy livestock.
Heifer will help 40 families by providing loans for them to purchase 40 dairy cattle. In addition, training in animal management , e.g. how to build a comfy barn, how to prevent cattle from being sick, and education on how to improve land fertility will be provided to these families.
