Lujiang County is located in the middle of Anhui Province and has an area of 2,386 square kilometers. It comprises 17 townships and 384 villages, and has a population of 1.05 million, the majority being farmers. The annual income per capita in rural areas is approximately RMB2,724 (USD340), RMB531 (USD66) lower than the average of the country.
This project will improve the target communities’ livelihoods through livestock and poultry raising and development; in the process, a series of scientific animal management trainings will be conducted to help the project participants grasp animal management skills. With the group management training, the capacity of the community will be improved to achieve sustainable development and self-reliance. Gender and HIV/AIDS awareness training will also be conducted along with the economic development of the communities in order to achieve the social harmony.
