Bordering with Burma, Lancang Lahu Autonomous County is located in the Southwest of Yunnan Province. It comprises 20 townships, 157 villages with population of 0.47 million. Lancang County is a state designated poor county, of which 310000 are poor, accounting for 66% of the total population.

This project will provide pigs, goats or cattle to 120 poor households in Lancang County. They will also receive animal management training to increase productivity and income. In the target communities, farmers will form self-help groups and receive training in Heifer’s values-based holistic community development model and HIV/AIDS prevention. The self-help groups will participate in project monitoring and evaluation and will co-mentor each other. An additional 240 families will benefit from “passing on the gift.”

In addition, we will focus on publicizing the danger of HIV/AIDS and its prevention and control measures in local schools and communities so as to increase local community’s awareness of HIV/AIDS prevention and control.
