Gangou Agriculture & Animal Husbandry Holistic Development Project

Gangou Group of Jiulong Village located in Luoji Township, 40 kms to the east of Shangrila County with an altitude of 2,600 meters above sea level. There are 47 households and 175 people in the group. All are Yi ethnic people. The annual per capita income was USD53 in 2005.
This project will provide a loan of USD626 (RMB5,000) to 40 poor households each in Gangou Group of Luoji Township in Shangrila County of Yunnan Province. The loan will be used for purchasing goats, sheep or cattle. Shangrila County Association of Agri-ecology (SCAA), as project partner, will provide training on animal husbandry skills and farming technique to increase crop yield and animal productivity. Farmers will consequently increase their income. Environment conservation education and forestation activities will be conducted by project participants. Another 60 families will benefit through passing on the gift.
