Daxing Village of Lizi Township is 80 kms away from the county. It covers 3 groups and 510 households with a population of 2100. Because of the Grain-to-Green policy （All the crop land on the hills with a angle of 15 degrees or up should be returned to forest or grassland.）, there has been less and less arable land in Daxing Village. The per capita arable land is 0.12 acres. The annual income in 2005 was USD69 per capita. The limited local resources and increasing population has become a problem. Additionally, many poor farmers suffer from illness and occasional natural disasters, making life very tough for them.Due to a lack of land, pig and buffalo are the major animals raised there.
Pig raising is a traditional livelihood in Daxing Village. Farmers have some basic knowledge about it. The project will provide them with 3-cross bred sows each to deliver lean piglets to increase market competence. The project will also provide the recipients with biogas tanks to solve the lack of fuel problem in an environmentally-friendly way.
