Wan Zhou District of Chongqing lies in the central zone of Three Gorges reservoir basin, the concentrated national poor mountainous area. There are 220 extreme poor villages in 20 extreme poor towns. Wan Zhou District has the largest population of immigrants of Three Gorges Project. Farmers in the target communities are immigrants that have only 0.08 acre arable land per capita for cropping. Animal raising is considered as a major income source for them.
This project aims to improve income for 8 recipient families from the Third Group of Wu Xi Community in Wan Zhou District, Chongqing by increasing the efficiency of their pig production.
The project will also provide the farmers with related agricultural supplies, technical training and services to improve their pig raising skills and reduce the death rate of piglets. This project also helps the communities to achieve cohesion and develop the group saving fund by related capacity building activities. Another 8 families in the same Group will benefit from passing on the gift.
