Chores For Change
Held in March every year, Chores for Change is a fundraising program which encourages students to serve others while empowering them to make a difference in rural China by raising funds for the gift of livestock. It enhances students' personal growth while helping others in need.
Chores for Change is a three day program of which school can set their own d
ates to launch that. Every participating student will get "My Service Agreement" for writing three pledges to serve others, for instance helping mother do housework, helping schoolmates with homework or helping elderly cross the road... etc. After fulfilling their pledges during the three program days they can participate in a dress special day (to be held on the last program day) and wear costume or casual wear to school.
This year we're pleased to have invited famous TV artist Wayne Lai to be our ambassador for the program to be held in March 2010, and we sincerely invite you to join us. Participated students will receive a limited edition badge that Wayne Lai helped design!
Donations will help Anhui snowstorm victims rebuild livelihood
Funds raised through Chores for Change 2009-2010 will support the "Anhui Dabie Mountain Area Community Development Project". Dabie mountain area is located at the borders of Hubei, Henan and Anhui Province. Due to its remote geographical location and diversified landscapes, its infrastructures such as communication, transportation, education and health facilities are poorly developed. The Dabie mountain area within Anhui Province especially needs help because it accounts for 37% of the poorest population of the whole province. The disastrous snowstorm happened in Jan 2008 worsened the situation. Among the 5.97 million snowstorm victims most live in the Dabie mountain area in Anhui Province.
Heifer is going to help 400 snowstorm victim families from 3 counties of Huoshan, Yuexi and Taihu. Apart from high-quality livestock, Heifer will provide recipients with trainings on animal husbandry, community development, animal disease control, market knowledge, disaster resistance and Self-Help Group management. Women's participation in community development, and the raise of education level are two focus areas of the project. We have also gained support of the local authority who will help build methane gas well, decomposition pool and compost shed in order to improve the living environment. Another 590 families will be benefited by "Passing on the Gift" and receive animal offspring and raising techniques from the first generation recipients.
